Maybe Sunshine is a "coming-of-middle age" story about a 40-something rock queen who builds a new band from scratch after the disastrous break-up of her last band a decade earlier. She was a big deal in the 90’s, but now she is 20 years older, 40 pounds heavier, and divorced. She has to compete with ambitious trust fund millennials with skinny jeans and cash to burn.
She was a big deal in the 90’s, but now she is 20 years older, 40 pounds heavier, and divorced. She has to compete with ambitious trust fund millennials with skinny jeans and cash to burn.
Based on a true story, Lisa plays her first gig with her new band Radiana. The band plays to an empty room. The headliner, a horrible one man band named NewTron, likes Radiana and offers to introduce them to his record label. The band's manager, Diego Diego, roughs up the club promoter to pay the band, but they end up getting chased by the fuzz!
Lisa is called in to meet NewTron's record label, in a drug-filled limo in the middle of nowhere. Her manager Diego Diego wheels and deals her into the poor house. The label head, Victor Krieg decides to overhaul Lisa's look and make her more trendy. Lisa realizes the futility of everything and eats a whole tube of raw cookie dough.
Based on another true story, Lisa demands that Louis launch her web site, but he is afraid it will attract stalkers. Later she tries to have a band meeting at a local café, but can't grab her young, sex-crazed band-mates' attention. A vampire follows Lisa and makes an indecent proposal. Her stalker comes back online in a distant basement, intent on meeting her.
Lisa visits her gynecologist and learns about the wonders of aging. Later she has a run in with rival band, Late Cambrian. The bands must battle for their right to use the double-booked rehearsal space, and for their dignity, the only way they know how. Through racism and ageism. Or a guitar battle.
Lisa reminisces about all her crappy Exes and her beloved deceased band-mates after attending yet another funeral. Missy consoles her and promises to meet her at a club later to deal with rival band Late Cambrian. Lisa's sexy but reckless Bulgarian roommate gives her terrible dating advice, including an encounter with a male-gigolo named "The Dangler"
Lisa waits alone outside a club for her band to NOT show up as Lisa's band mates abandon her once again. She is propositioned by a chipper Wall Street CEO named Mr. Pinky. Lisa finally meets with Nina, the bassist, and they taunt Late Cambrian. Lisa and Olive get into a cat fight in the club. Radiana suddenly gets a live show on WFMU due to unforeseen injuries.
Lisa's stalker begs DJ Dark to book Radiana for a live show on WFMU radio after Late Cambrian cancels due to unforeseen injuries. Radiana finally implodes and Lisa has a full meltdown on the air. The public LOVES to hear the band fighting and Radiana catapult into instant fame on YouTube and Twitter. But how will Lisa get the band back together after she fired them all on the air?
