After the delivery of a mysterious note concerning the heretofore unnoticed disappearance of Smitty, Panceliss and Sgt. McAdams, his biggest rival, and known bird-hater, confront each other about what neither knows.

With Smitty, his trusty intern, out of the picture, Panceliss turns to a reject from the great unpaid intern hunt to sniff out more about the kidnapping. But is he barking up the wrong tree? Meanwhile Smitty copy-edits his own ransom note.

The actual ransom note arrives in Temperance's box overnight, setting Dick hot on the trail, while McAdams plays "handsy" with Temperance, who is not amused.

McAdams confronts Dick for withholding evidence, while Temperance calls the sarge her dark father, who is keen to set a trap. Meanwhile, Smitty turns the tables of his sticky wicket on his captors.

McAdam's trap springs, but flops, while Panceliss and Temperance spring Smitty, but ponder the bigger question.

A mysterious woman from Panceliss' past makes an unwelcome reappearance, but Dick is unable to stay out of her web, agreeing reluctantly to tail her for protection. Their reunion is short-lived though as she has no threats and Panceliss has no patience. But an intruder ransacking his office adds confusion and threatens a contusion!

After Temperance sacks the ransacker, Panceliss hears more about the new client from Smitty than is good for Smitty’s Job. With Smitty off the case and out of the scene, Constance leads Panceliss on a long chase off a short cliff, giving Sgt. McAdams an excuse to charge Panceliss with her murder.

McAdams loses a collar, but gains an alliance with the Panceliss support crew as they work to find the missing Dick. Panceliss finds himself face to shadow-face with the mysterious crime kingpin, who not only has Panceliss in ropes, but a new crew of henchman including a mystery man of action!

An unlikely alliance forged to find Panceliss converges on Three Street Junction for a game of street search roulette and Temperance draws the short straw. Meanwhile in the very lair they seek, a bound Panceliss and a literally shadowy crime kingpin parry over info the kingpin wants and Panceliss won’t give, until the 5-time interrogator of the year applies the Kiss of Death!

With a little prodding, Panceliss stalls his interrogation with tales from his youth, giving the temporary allies a chance to burst upon the scene ... and Bruno’s bubble of victory. Free again, Panceliss hangs another completed case on his wall, while Nottamole has awakened feelings, and a femme fatale, from the past.

Smitty and Temperance try to keep the agency going while Dick hits the bottle after losing his long lost love Constance Trustworthy—again. Meanwhile, Constance, as Nottamole, slips past Bruno Weisenheimer’s guard at the hospital to revive, Phem Faye Tall, from the her Season One ending coma!

Constance/Nottamole uses her new personal grooming style to placate a nervous Phem and fool a suspicious guard, talking out of both sides of her mouth to rescue Phem. Meanwhile, Smitty and Temperance try to sober up Dick as if their business depends on it. And it’s Temperance for the win in a charade that sheds light on Panceliss’ dark romantic past. It’s better than Cats!

Finally out of his booze haze, Panceliss untangles the mystery of his past love with the help of a flashback to when he was still a cop, fully-clothed, and in line for matrimonial bliss and career advancement—all because he cracked the Friday case when it couldn’t be cracked. But a quiet moment not quite alone, a bucket of fried pigeon, and a jealous rival raise the stakes.

The revery of pants-straightening broken, Panceliss realizes something’s not right, but before he can righten things, McAdams gets to Constance with a threat. When the Chief finds his pants are soiled, Constance takes the dive for it. Unfortunately, she takes Panceliss with her as both are disgraced publicly and fired! In Naked City, a cop doesn’t just lose his gun and badge.

Dick knows just where to look for Constance and Phem now that they are on the lam. Everybody shady who needs a dark corner to hide goes to Nick’s Cafe Canadien, the portal in and out of Naked City’s underground. When Dick’s slighting of Smitty leads to noodling on the piano, Dick gets Smitty to play it again. Dick croons his heart out and touches Constance’s but is it enough?
