The opening episode of a political drama/comedy set in a small town. In the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election Jerome Ali, a gay, Buddhist father of two, decides he needs to run for mayor. In this pilot episode he breaks that news to his husband, Gavin. We also meet Sadie, a Democratic consultant and Jerome's college friend.
In this episode we meet an angry and increasingly inebriated John Bearez, who gets into a fight with a Republican sympathizer. We also conclude Jerome and Gavin's discussion regarding their next move now that the country has blindsided them.

Bearez lay bare his feelings about the 2016 election and his fears about the future to anyone who will listen. Thanks to Jerome, Bearez learns that good faith and a sincere desire to serve the public are what needs to be at the heart of a sincere campaign.
